This weekend I am racing in my biggest karting event this year, the O Plate at the TKM Festival.
After a frustrating race day in May, we managed to sort out our problems and come back strong for July, to prepare for the O Plate in August. It’s great to be back racing after being out of it for such a long time!
The format for Sunday was mixed grids, and with 29 drivers spread by 0.4 seconds, it made for some close racing.
In Heat 1 I started 13th. I managed to gain positions at the start, until a driver drove straight over the front of my kart and ruined my race. I had damage and ended up finishing 20th.
In Heat 2 I started 20th, and finished 13th on track but a 5 second bumper penalty caused me to finish in 18th. I was 1 tenth off fastest lap and 5th fastest out on track, so the pace was there.
In Heat 3 I started 17th, and finished 23rd after being pushed off onto the grass causing me to drop lots of positions.
In the Final I oiled up on the grid and it took a while to get my kart started. We just about got out but missed the start. I caught up to the pack on lap 1, got my head down and finished 16th, gaining 13 places.
Big thanks to my Dad and Grandad for doing a great job as mechanics, and Stu Stretton for the photos. We are looking forward to the O Plate next month.
Mixed weekend at Kimbolton after being out of karting for over a year.
Race 1: Started 16th, was running in 5th until my bumper snapped from being hit from behind. DNF.
Race 2: Started 4th, finished 5th.
Race 3: Started 20th, struggled for pace but finished 13th with 5 second bumper penalty.
Started 14th out of 25 for the final. Unfortunately an unknown problem occurred which caused me to be uncompetitive, and with another 5 second bumper penalty I finished 17th.
Lots learnt but looking forward to next month.
Big thanks to Dad and Grandad for being on the spanners on the weekend.
Fun weekend back karting for the O plate at Kimbolton with a grid of 32 drivers.
Had a good day on Friday setting some decent laps.
Struggled for pace on Saturday with pace on our race tyres, so didn’t have the best results in the heats.
It rained as we were on the grid for the pre final. We all went out on slicks and it was wet for the whole race! I started 30th and finished the race in 5th! Definitely the highlight of the weekend.
This meant I started 5th for the grand final. Got into 4th on the first lap but then slipped backwards and got caught in a few battles and finished 13th. Would have liked to have finished slightly higher up but happy that we were up there as this is only my 3rd time out this year!
Big thanks to everyone at Flex Motorsport, as well as my Dad and Grandad for being great on the spanners all weekend!
We were back at Shenington on the weekend after not racing there for a year.
Had some electrical issues throughout testing but got it all sorted for qualifying.
Unfortunately in qualifying I didn’t get a good lap in when the tyres were at their best but had great pace at the end, so qualified 28th out of 50 overall.
Heat 1 was a scrap, gained 2 positions.
Heat 2 was the same but I got binned at the end so finished at the back!
This meant I started 6th in the B final.
Got into 3rd going up to the top corner until I got roofed and ended up getting a mechanical flag because of the rear bumper.
Lots learnt over the weekend, as this was only my second race weekend this year. Big thanks to my Dad and Grandad for helping out!
Something a bit different than a kart! Really enjoyed my first go in a Single Seater Racing Car. Was also very quick, fasest by a big gap in my session.
Had a good day testing in both wet and dry conditions!
Started 4th in Heat 1 which was wet and finished 5th with the wrong gearing on.
Heat 2 was a drying track, started 16th and finished 5th.
In the final I started 3rd and maintained it for most of the race until the wind picked up meaning the pack behind caught me up, ended up finishing 5th, and 3rd on points from the meeting.
Big thanks to Dad, Grandad, and Flex Motorsport
Average weekend at Kimbolton
Good day on Saturday in the dry!
Sunday was raining constantly so had a full day of wet weather racing against 17 others...
Heat 1 started 7th and finished 2nd.
Heat 2 started 11th, got up to 7th but then got wiped out unintentionally so finished 12th in the end.
Heat 3 started 8th and finished 5th.
For the final I started 6th and ended up finishing 5th, was a frustrating race due to being too low on tyre pressures... This all meant I finished 4th overall on points.
Big thanks to grandad for his hard work this weekend.
PF was going alright until I had no steering going into hairpin 1!
Really enjoyed the circuit and was good to have pace back! Qualifying went okay, starting in the middle for both my heats. In the first heat I didn't finish due to a mechanical issue. In the second heat I gained 2 places so finished 11th.
This put me 2nd on the grid in the repechage. I was having a great race with 3 other top drivers who were at the front in the heats but also had bad luck like me. I was in 3rd but then my steering wheel came loose so I went into hairpin 1 with no steering so was forced to retire.
Big thanks to Flex Motorsport, Dad and Grandad for the weekend.
Frustrating weekend at GYG! Love the circuit but was hindered of getting a good result from the start with the wets we had to race on. Plus something our starter motor exploded in Final 2 so couldn’t do much with that going on... Big thanks to Dad, Grandad, and Flex Motorsport.
